Other Info	Ribbons of Song has made a new record, Waterbugs. We invite you to celebrate with us! At dusk, joining the red-winged blackbirds, ducks, geese, frogs and insects, we'll play a few human songs from our new record out on the observation deck, in the middle of Cattail Crossings at Huff Park. We'll also have some complimentary CDR copies of the record on hand, and we'll pass around a little champagne. Why not? Prepare to have a seat on the damp planks of the boardwalk, or bring a small camp chair. There's room for about 20 people on the main observation deck, if we snuggle up, and we like the idea of the concert being brief and intimate, with the focus being on the natural sounds around us. If you can't make it, that's okay. Waterbugs becomes available for digital download at all major online retailers on June 1, 2013.

New solo album Waterbugs releases June 1st.

Since the summer of 2012, Ribbons of Song has been a quiet beast. Instead of playing shows, we’ve all been off doing our own things. I’ve tried to play out very little, letting songs write themselves when they come along, but not working too hard at it. As a band, we worked very hard during 2011 and 2012. Speaking for myself, trying to push our Kickstarter up the big hill of fundraising wore me out. Trying to organize and record Little Storm, a 19-song album featuring 16 musicians, was a tough job, too. It was time to rest.

The rest has been good. Giving up on pushing so hard was the right choice.

While resting, I’ve been able to approach music more casually, without pushing. I haven’t worked with a band, just hummed to myself and borrowed instruments when I thought I might need them. Earlier this winter I asked my brother Jonathan if he’d be interested in working with me on a new record. I really wanted to see what we could make if he was responsible for the mixing and production of my new songs. He agreed to jump on board. We see each other’s blind spots pretty well, and we’re both pretty driven perfectionists, so I knew we’d get something good, even if the sound was unexpected and different.

I’m proud to announce that a brand-new, full-length Ribbons of Song album is coming soon. Working together has been really fun. We’ve teamed up as an artist/producer duo, recorded 8 new songs, then pulled out the stops and recorded 2 very special cover songs to round out the album. Waterbugs features a new folk-pop hybrid sound that Jonathan and I began exploring a couple years ago. An ambient atmospheric calm is interrupted by soft guitar, layers of voices, synths, 808 drum machine samples, bells, piano, and soft guitar.
