This song was so much fun to write, nearly as enjoyable as the deliciously pleasurable evening it echoes. Every time I listen to this, my mouth waters, expecting the same flavors. Songs are like a drug sometimes. They let you remember only what you want to, and they let you forget everything else, if only for 3 little minutes…
But before I get distracted, allow me to introduce you to our new vocalist, Jessie Brenner. She has a deliciously breathy, soulful delivery I’m sure you’ll also find captivating. This is the home demo, recorded mid-October, 2011, with just Jessie and I singing in my living room. -Ben
Brand New Kisses
The party’s closing down
And this old jazz band’s playing some way-back tunes
Nobody really cares about
So you look at me
I’m looking out at the crowd
You stash my drink and keys in some
Potted trees that somebody carefully set out
I put the cherry in my mouth
Dance with me
In your blue sequins and your pretty legs
Swish those sequins ’round your pretty legs
Tuck your tail around and shake a leg
Look at your cowboy boots!
Blue sequins and your pretty legs
Can’t stop talking ’bout your pretty legs
Slip my hands around your little waist
I think I caught the eye
Of the college president and his wife
The way she grins at him
When he pulls her in
Well, I could watch them dance all night
Yeah, I could watch them dance all night
Or we could sneak upstairs
With your blue sequins and your pretty legs
No one here would even think a thing
Just your kisses and new champagne
On the second floor
It’s kinda quiet and the lights are out
Awful lot of rooms in this big old house
Who’s gonna find us if we keep it down?
Your new kisses and new champagne
Nothing tastes the way you taste
Brand new kisses and your pretty legs
